Excited to have acquired a stash of wonderful antique and vintage foundry gear patterns that would make for great industrial wall art installations! See my offerings here.

Foundry patterns like these are one-of-a-kind wooden models from which molds would be made for then casting in iron for machinery. Since only one such model would be needed to make several iron duplicates and then discarded when they were no longer needed, they are much more rare than their iron offspring.

Their dynamic industrial style and worn patina makes them very decorative, and their lightweight nature makes them perfect for safe and easy wall mounting.

Several are from the Chain Belt Company of Milwaukee, WI that revolutionized industry in the late 1800s with the concept of replacing leather belts with their Rex chain belts for driving machinery, Schlitz Brewing Company being one of their first clients.

Ranging from 17" to 32" diameter, you're sure to find the perfect one for your project.

You can check them all out on my website.

Custom Western Saloon Doors

Custom Western Saloon Doors from Iron Anarchy

Am excited to have completed a pair of one-of-a-kind custom saloon doors for a New York client. They're in a rustic Western style, constructed of knotty redwood with a blood-red stain and a raised grain effect. The upper window areas feature matching antique cast iron gears, while the lower panels are very cool salvaged Victorian ceiling tin acquired from Fragment Freaks. Hand wrought iron hardware accents complete the piece. The client wanted them monogramed, so I designed an antique style cartouche to stage the chunky letterforms and hand painted them onto each door.
Please see my other custom saloon doors and contact me to create your ideal pair.

Handcrafted Custom Swinging Western Saloon Doors

Here’s a custom pair of swinging doors commissioned by an Orange County client for her home’s pantry.

To match other woodwork in the kitchen, they were created with reclaimed aged barn wood from a local lumber salvage company. They have an ultra-dynamic presence with the raised grain, dramatic knots, and natural aged coloring of warm and cool grays, as well as bits of old barn red paint still holding on in the knots. They feature old iron horseshoes and hand wrought iron nail accents.

Here’s a recently completed pair of saloon doors commissioned by a brewery client in the San Francisco Bay area. The owner of Baeltane Brewing, Alan wrote to me several weeks ago wanting a pair of rustic Western style saloon doors to fit the doorway between the guest space and the back room, while tying into the woodwork of the nearby bar and seating areas. I Photoshopped together a few designs for his consideration. After shopping around, he came back to me because he liked mine the best.

I created custom tongue and groove planks of uniform width to fit his doorway perfectly, beveling them for a dimensional architectural look. I then heavily distressed them to create an aged, raised grain effect, stained them to match the pub’s existing woodwork, and applied a clear matte finish. Hand wrought iron nails from Santa Fe add a rustic, masculine accent.

I then sent photos of the completed swinging doors for Alan’s final approval. Upon receipt of “BEEEEEEEAUTIFUL!”, I sent them off to their new home. Had a great time collaborating with Alan and am excited to stop in on my next road trip to visit my doors and sample some of Alan’s work!

Here’s a recently completed pair of saloon doors commissioned by a client in Cincinatti, OH. Peggy wrote to me a couple of weeks ago wanting a pair of rustic Western style doors to fit her home’s 3’ wide doorway. Using reclaimed lumber, I gave them a very aged effect with raised wood grain and a dark brown color. The doors were accented with hand forged iron nails and real antique horseshoes. I sent photos of the completed doors for Peggy’s final approval. Upon the receipt of “Awesome!”, I packaged them for Cincy and off they went to their new home.

Here’s a custom pair of saloon doors commissioned by a new Vancouver, Canada restaurant. I worked with them to develop a design they were pleased with using knotty pine and reclaimed antique spindles. Since their door opening was slightly wider than normal, they were concerned about the doors being too wide, so I created side mounts to lessen the door width and make them more of a ‘human proportion” scale.

Using their interior paint color, I hand painted the doors and gave them a worn effect, finishing them up with a subtle antique, soft-sheen finish.

This is one of my most exciting client collaboration projects yet! Wanting a pair of swinging doors for her kitchen renovation in Buffalo Gap, SD, Kathy contacted me for the job. I worked up some designs and one was chosen. She wanted the name of her ranch emblazoned across each side, so I designed a custom logo for her.

She also inquired about me creating the same finish for the room’s 9’ dining table. We chose a massive farmhouse table leg and apron in knotty pine and they were delivered to my studio the following week. I chose matching lumber for the door. Kat gave me full creative license to create all the elements with a “high funk” level of distressing.

Client writes: "Beyond amazing!! You are an artistic genius!! You took my idea and ran with it and brought the project home in a way I could have never imagined. Your workmanship is beyond excellent, and your communication was first rate all the way.  I am seriously speechless!!  I will never be able to thank you enough!!"

I had an amazing time working on these with Kat and have found a great friend. We’re now talking about our next collaboration which may involve a road trip to SD!

Am also selling the vintage iron corner brackets, acquired from an old cabinetmaker in Santa Fe, NM who had them made in Mexico back in the '40s. Please see my Barn Door Hardware listing.

Excited about this recent acquisition of this antique wooden gear. It’s the hand made model from which a foundry would then make the mold to cast them in iron. They are quite rare, since only 1 would be made, but dozens (hundreds?) of metal ones then cast. Has an amazing aged patina of colorful worn and flaking paint. Metal ID plate.

Measures 25” in diameter.
